You can Google the name Winnemont, and get to a map of its location, 3 1/2 miles from West Ossipee on the NW corner of the lake. The last time I went there, more than 10 years ago, there was a family camp on the site and the lodge, dining hall, and cabins were still as I remembered them. I believe this operator is still there; families come in the summer and stay in a cabin or in a tent and enjoy the site. _________________ Sister of a Wyanoker; Winnemont camper |

Hi Alex,
There's a picture in the Winnemont photo albums, of the Lodge/Dining Hall. The current owner of the property attached a comment to that picture saying that she and her family still eat on those yellow tables.
Speaking of the albums, there's more in the last couple of days, including the 1961 catalog (in progress). _________________ '56-C-9 C. Mosher '57-C-9 Bill Feaster

Nice additional pics, Mike. Whenever I drive from my brother's home in Scarboro, ME back to Tuftonboro, NH I always take the back road from Rt. 25 to Center Ossipee and down to Tuftonboro. Not too far from the "Lakes In The Clouds" which is still there and bottling spring water. _________________ '56 - J-9 J. Moulton

Hi Jim,
Are you thinking of "Castle in the Clouds"? Lakes of the Clouds is the AMC hut on Mt. Washington. I remember seeing the Castle in the Clouds from the road (109?) on outings from camp with my parents, but we never went in. Seems the only thing I wanted to do on thise days was go to Blacks. I also think I read something about their bottling water.
I just got some more Winnemont catalogs from Alex Harris, and will be posting them in the next few days, as well as wrapping up Ginny's '61 catalog. I also have one from Jane Gray, who added some great commentary. I'm working on that one.
Jane's catalog (from '48 I think) lists Winnemont as being in Mt. Whittier, NH, as opposed to (West?) Ossipee. Anyone know anything about the town name change? I recall it as being some form of Ossipee. _________________ '56-C-9 C. Mosher '57-C-9 Bill Feaster

You are correct, Mike! In my haste I typed Lakes of the Clouds rather than Castle in the Clouds. Darn, I'm gonna now have to subject myself to a "double siesta"! Yes Castle in the Clouds is open and offers tours of the Castle and the bottling plant. The plant used to bottle both spring water and Lucknow Beer, but I believe that they have dropped the beer line and concentrate on bottled spring water. It's a beautiful view from up there. _________________ '56 - J-9 J. Moulton
