Does anyone remember canoe trips on the Bear Camp river? I think this was a consolation prize for younger campers too young for the Saco River trip. I remember skinny dipping, sliding down a clay bank into the river, and having a great time.
Also remember climbing Mt. Chocorua, and other hiking expeditions with Don Duncan leading and cajoling. Much fun, and I'm still hiking, 50 years later! _________________ Sister of a Wyanoker; Winnemont camper |

Yes, I certainly remember them. We had to portage over Rt. 25 one year, when they were building the new bridge. And stopping for ice cream at 'Twinnies'?? Well, when I first started, in the early '50's, 'Twinnies' was Twin Maples, then Twin Pines, or was it Twin Elms, then Twin Maples, then Twin Pines?? Anyway, the building is still there, sans 'Twin' anything, but is no longer a restaurant. I was ultimately head of Rowing and Canoing, occasionally 'helped' Di Lees with her hiking trips, and bugled along with her. Yes, we were the reviled 'Reveille Duet' Over 48 years ago I married my husband, teasingly telling him it was because his family had a camp on Kezar Lake, within view of Mt. Kearsarge. Now we live in Lovell ME, and have visited the old Camp Winnemont, still Wabenaki. Kinjie |
