I read in today's paper that Eugene R. Clark, Jr., long time (28 yrs) director of Camp Belknap died November 30, 2008 in Littleton, NH. Mr. Clark's son, Gene III, presently runs the Camp.

Many of us enjoyed spirited competition with Camp Belknap over the years, and they continue to run a first class camp.

My father always considered Gene Jr to be good friend and a credit to the camping profession.

Camp Wyanoke extends it's condolences to Camp Belknap and the Clark family.

As a camper I went to Belknap (we as kids, of course, had a more colorful pronunciation for it) on the swim and riflery teams, then later drove various teams for inter-camp competitions. I never had a feeling of "competition" other than the event we were there for. Some good times, and I'm pleased for Belknap and its alumni that they can still send their sons to a camp from the "old days".

Here's Gene III's response to Dave:

Dave,
That is very kind of you to send along such thoughts- I also remember days of competition (all good) with Wyanoke as a young boy here at Belknap- several staff we still have here also remember those days well- our camps were so similar in philosophy and the love campers and staff have for our respective camps- we had grey shirts with green B's on them- you had grey shirts with blue W's on them- I think your folks and mine may have shopped for camp clothing from the same place!!! my folks often talked about the Bentley's- Gene III
