When attending Wyanoke I always forgot to light my candle when I got home. With the one I got from this years reunion I am going to do it right. When was it. Christmas Eve or New Years Eve? I am thinking it was New Years Eve but I lit it for a while last night just to be sure. _________________ Alan Carter Neagle |

I think traditionally it was Christmas Eve, but New Year's Eve seems more appropriate - it symbolically replaces the brand from the last campfire of one season to the first one of the next. Carries on the tradition and the memories.
Did you know that it was Dan Mannis who introduced the whole Farewell Banquet candle tradition to Wyanoke? I don't remember what year, maybe '63 (? a little help here?). I remember the first year we did it, and it was truly moving, as it was every summer thereafter. It deservedly became a part of the Wyanoke culture, which was not an easy thing to do.
Thanks, Alan. Great seeing you at the reunion too.
A little belated, but Merry Christmas and certainly a happy new year!
And that goes to everyone reading this!
