I would like to extend personal best wishes to each of you at this Thanksgiving time. May we all take time from our busy schedules to remember all that we have to be thankful for.

To all who are traveling (including my family), I wish you the very safest and most pleasant trip, and may you return home safely.

And, on a sports note, may YOUR team win.

Dave and family enjoy a safe and Happy Thanksgiving whether you are in NH or plan to travel to PA. Also a very Happy Thanksgiving to all our Wyanoke friends, cabin mates, tent mates and best wishes! Remember our Sunday & Farewell Banquet "Turkey Dinners" at Wyanoke! They were the best! As you eat your pumpkin and/or pecan pie this week, remember the brownie & vanilla ice cream dessert served in the dining hall that we all loved on Sundays and at the Farewell Banquet.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Jim

Mike, you have done and continue to do such a great job on this site! I cannot even begin to imagine the wealth of memories that all of our posts and photos bring back from the great summers we spent at Wyanoke. For me, you and so many others Wyanoke was our Summer home for many years . . . . . . . . 9 years for me. That's a lot of Summers!

While up in NH this past weekend my brother Dick reminded me of the "Mosquito Control Squad" that used to spray/fog our tents during July/August to rid our domiciles of those pesky critters. Remember them telling us to pull our sheet blankets up over our heads before spraying at night after taps?

Well, maybe Dr. Bob Arnot can draw a correlation between that mosquito spray, bug juice, bug dope and Thursday night cookouts as to why I have no hair left! I always blamed it on genetics and the recessive "bald" gene carried by my mother as carried by her father. But now I'm sure that it was the "bug juice" in those HEAVY glass jugs! Wasn't plastic invented by then?? LOL

Fond Memories,

Jim

Listen here, Jim Culleton, I already explained the "bug juice" chemistry earlier somewhere on this website, and I don't want any remarks, either direct or inferrential, about "bug juice", especially when it was produced by one of my grandmothers under the auspices of the wife of BMB himself. All this talk about recessives genes, family trees, and "bug spray" only serve to confuse and deflect the topic. True "bug juice" stands as a symbol and icon by itself, and should not be besmirtched in any manner.

LOL LOL LOL LOL Jim, you are a good sport.

LOL, Dave! Great response. I was gonna ask if anyone has a clean frozen sample of the "punch" from '59 - '64 so that we can put it thru the mass spectrophotometer to determine its true contents. Grapefruit juice was a component as I remember, but the "punch" was mostly red . . . . . . . hence the "bug juice" name.

As an aside, there was always that rumor that the cooks put saltpeter in our food to hold down the hormones in the Seniors, at least before the Winnemont dances. That was the rumor going around at the time but don't know if it had "legs"! We'll have to check some former recipes for that ingredient . . . . . . . . . maybe in the NE Boiled Dinner or baked haddock . . . . . . . maybe in the beans and franks? Bet it was hidden in the most unlikely place . . . . Welsh Rabbit Surprised ? "Salt" may have been Mervin Pifnik's cousin? Pat would know. I can't seem to find Mervin on any of the rosters!

We could probably start a whole new thread about Mervin and his locked trunk!
