Rain seems to be the topic of conversation all over the country, and Wolfeboro is not immune. I must say, when I watch the news and weather stations I have to admit that there are many areas of the country in much worse shape than Wolfeboro; however, human nature as it is, one tends to view things through their own eyes, and all I have seen for the month of October is rain. So far, knock on wood, Wolfeboro has only experienced minor flooding, mostly confined to basements and a couple of road wash outs. The Lake had already been drawn down about a foot (usual for the Fall), so all the additional rain and run-in in to the Lake has brought it up to about 18 inches over full (a net gain from the drawn down level of about 30 inches). Had not the Lake been drawn down the situation would be a lot different. For most of the Summer, Wolfeboro has been "under assault" by infrastructure contractors repairing and improving our water and sewar system, electrical system, and some of the roads. All the rain has had a severe dampening effect on their ability to progress in a timely fashion, the end result being that it is not nearing frost time and there are still open roads to patch, piping to complete, and electrical work to finish. Traffic has been horrific all Summer, and, or course, tourist's patients runs thin, locals decry the tourist, and the infrastructure contractor gets the brunt of everyone's frustration. Oh well!
On a more enjoyable note, Tom Falcon and I did escape to spend time at the "reunion" at Jeff's home. This was a truly great time, a good mix of alums, and a good start for more of the same. Thanks to all the organizers.
I guess everyone is wrapped up in Fall sports about now, so I offer support to your respective teams. Both my younger daughter and her husband are Penn State students, so I have a new Fall activity - rout for Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions (or else !)
My best to everyone, and remember, Go Blues, but don't leave the Grays too far behind. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Dave: I'm looking over old posts and see that some time back you turned into a Penn State fan.
Here's the original Wyanoke connection: Joe Paterno and my uncle Jerry Donovan were classmates at Brown. Jerry's kids Daniel and Jim (Pepi) of course were campers.
If camp were still open Joe could come up and give a talk and have a coaching session. (I'm still amazed that I met Don Budge.)

Wow, Pat, I forgot all about the fact that Danny & Pepi were relatives of yours. I guess at the time the last name Donovan escaped me and their relationship to you. Pepi and Davie Vaughan were a couple of the smallest midgets in Cabintown at the time in the early 60's when I was there, but both had great personalities and showed the bigger kids up on many occasions!
I think Kellie was in my brother Dick's PMHS graduating class? Probably 1968 or there abouts?
Go IU during March Madness! That's INDIANA! GO HOOSIERS! _________________ '56 - J-9 J. Moulton

My younger daughter, her husband, and their daughter, live in Lemont, PA, adjacent to State College, and he attends Penn State is is also employed by Penn State.
It is NOT POSSIBLE to have a connection to Penn State and not be a Penn State fan. My son-in-law attends most home games, and I have been able to make it to one. What an experience, 110,000 very vocal fans for about 2 hours non-stop cheering.
My maternal grandfather was a Brown grad, and played on their football team. Small world. He would be about 116 now.
From what I gather about Joe Paterno, he is a whole lot more than a football coach. He lives a very quiet life, in a very quiet neighborhood, walks to his office, frequents campus lunch spots, and is very philanthropic towards PSU, so much so that an entire building in the library complex is named after him. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Jeez, Dave, this is getting spooky:
My grandfather was born in 1892, so he'd be going on 116 now. He went to Brown, class of 1912, and played football for at least the Fall 1911 season.
During that season Brown played the Carlisle Indian School of Carlisle, Penn., led by the great Jim Thorpe. Brown lost, I think it was 12-6, but I'd consider that a victory against Thorpe.
Is it possible that your grandfather and mine were teammates?
