Very suprised and happy to find this site. Alot of memories here. And I am seeing many names I remember. My Dad also went to Wyanoke. I just got though grabing alot of pictures from this site that I will share with my Dad next time I see him. Unfortunetly he is in an nursing home for the memory impared but his long term memory will sometimes suprise you. I'm sure he will like the pictures. Thank-you to all the contributers. Unfortunetly I have nothing with me now. I will look through my parents stuff to see if there is anything. Glad to be in contact with you after all these years. Especially the J8 crew. _________________ Alan Carter Neagle |

Alan, welcome to the Wyanoke/Winnemont site! What years did you attend Wyanoke? For me it was '56-'64. Lots of great memories here. Mike has a great DVD available covering Wyanoke activities spanning a number of years . . . . . . very well produced.
Welcome again.

I believe I attended Wyanoke 65-68, plus or minus a year. I need to look at Mikes Database he talks about to tie that down. I am not sure when my Dad attended. I know he entered High School (10th grade) on 1936.
If anyone is interested I have a webpage devoted to my Dad's WW2 memoires.

I admit feeling out of place at Wyanoke because I was not any good at sports. Fortunetly the hiking, camping, water front, rifle range gave me purpose for being there. Maybe my artistic abilities interfered with being able to concentrate on sports. Another web page I have shows some work I did in digital art.

It also shows my interest in SCI-FI and 3D modeling which is what I do at work.
Glad to talk with you. _________________ Alan Carter Neagle |

I loved Wyanoke because of all of the sports... I was one of the better jocks at some things (Tennis, Baseball, Track, Soccer) and enjoyed learning brand new things (sailing, canoeing, HIKING... Mike Freeland is one of my life heros!! I had never done Archery before... (not a big fan), became a NRA recognized sharp shooter (never shot a gun before Wyanoke) and a member of my local gun club now (Skeet and Trap and shoot upland birds) behind my best friends (the gun dogs in my life) and I made a cabinet in shop that won the Shop award that year. I cannot think of a better place my parents could have sent me to enjoy a month or two during the summer. I enjoyed the rigor, competitiveness... hated military marching (but am thrilled to have done it), loved the pomp and the very strict ethics, honesty... honor that BMB instilled in his counselors and in the campers. My mother was thrilled that Mrs. BMB enforced table manners.
And David Ayers beautiful talent with the trumpet blowing retreat.
I was a jock but am most proud of that Shop award.
My hiking and climbing life began with Mike and Garth's trips to the White Mountain and AMC huts I am sure Wyanoke significantly influenced my decision to stay in New England after college and became a life long Massachusetts resident.

Hi Alan:
I was hoping that you would find the Wyanoke webpage. How the heck have you been? I was sad to see that you did'nt join us for the 1969 season in S-5. I seem to recall that you had mentioned that your family was moving.
Your presence added balance to our tent. I did'nt realize that you felt out of place at times in camp. Guess what: I did too. 1967 was a real eye opener, for me. The Junior Camp had a ton of really good athletes. Actually, we had one of the finest, Rich Lamson. Llama made seemingly impossible moves on a daily basis. And Dave Torrans was no slouch either.
I always got a kick out of your "WTF" expression, whenever you noted something absurb, happening back in the tent.
Do you remember when Fred Lang caught Llama running around with his jock stuffed with 3 tennis balls. Rich had no idea Fred was behind him, until you told him to look around.
Hey great graphic stuff..
Anyway..
Glad that you are well. Awesome sour milk story.
Mr. Goop

When did Rich Lamson get the Llama name? I remember the 3 tennis balls in the Jock Strap but not Fred catching him in the act. Could of forgot that part of it though. I think I remember you got a picture of it. Why don't you post it. Ha, Ha, Ha. _________________ Alan Carter Neagle |

Hi Al:
Unsure when Rich Lamson was giving the name Llama. Gee...Might it be as late as 1968? I can hear Charlie Thomas calling out Lamson and how he pronounced it Lamma-son. Naturally the peanut gallery picked up on this, and Rich was graced with his new Wyanoke name Llama.
Please refresh our memories on Fred's nocturnal tennis adventure. I somehow recall Jon Crane was involved? Do you remember his S-7 signature on the rear tent flap?
Rich was always ready to "model" the Wilson/Brine Trifecta look, if we nagged him enough.
Freddie arrived tentside out of nowhere during a command performance, and stopped the show with the utterance "Nice Rich".
Those were the days...

Al Ingraham renamed many campers as I recall. He may have some ownership of the "Llama" assignment. Scott Nickerson also was pretty creative in relabeling fellow campers.
Schilling has a you know what going against the "A's" as I type this.
Go Sox..

Fred waking up in the tennis court behind J8. It went like this. I think Mike was away on a camping trip. I do not remember anything about him being there. We woke up one morning. One by one we noticed. No Fred. Not only no Fred. No Fred's Bunk! Looking around we saw Fred sleeping in his bunk in the middle of the tennis court behind J8. Curious about this. We wondered. Did they move Fred asleep in his bunk to the middle of the tennis court. We were up and around. We did conclude a tree would of prevented Freds bunk from being moved up there without the bunk being tilted enough for Fred to fall out. We got back in our bunks. Revolie sounded. We watched Fred wake up with a start. This lead us to believe he did not expect this. Now Freds story. After coming back late. We were all asleep. His bunk was not there. Waving his flashlight around he saw it in the middle of the tennis court. In his words. "Being a nice night I decided, Why not sleep out there." He explained his waking with a start as forgeting where he was. It made sence to us. John Crane, I seem to remember him as Garth's JC. I don't remember the instigators of the event. Maybe someone elts will help. _________________ Alan Carter Neagle |
