So far, we've talked about what the first day was like as a camper. Here', I'd like to concentrate your experiences as councilors/JCs. I'll come back to post my own perspectives in a while.

Mike, I am racking my brain on this one, and as many of you have done the same regarding your 1st day as a camper. I'm thinking that my memory fades here since we were so busy getting the kids settled and somewhat adjusted to camp life.

As a JC in '62 and '63 and Councilor in '64 (all in Cabintown) I would think that I would have some clear experiences to share. I'm sure a few will come to light. We had the few homesick ones that wanted to call home the 1st night. We seemed to have handled that pretty well since we didn't make the trip down to the phone in Bea's office or the phone in the Dining Hall. There wasn't a phone in Cabintown as I recall. Then there were the others that forgot home as soon as they entered the cabin!

I do remember putting together the "Navy Float" list early on so as to avoid having mattresses drying in the sun the next day. Also teaching the "little ones" how to do a "hospital tuck" and the daily cabin routine for inspection . . . . . . . . darn those DUST BALLS!

I'll add more as I continue to rack my brain! I'm trying to remember how we decided who's bunk would be who's. Maybe it was on a 1st come basis?

Things must have gone smoothly on the 1st day as a councilor to have little recollection OR maybe my mind erased it all! Laughing
