Do you remember picture day? Every summer a photographer would appear at camp and took pictures of each cabin and tent group, activities and various configurations of the council staff. Councilors were instructed to be in their clean "dress whites" and I am sure their were other instructions as well.

Each summer I collected a few of the pictures and have uploaded them to the picture gallery(1968-1975). It's interesting to watch me grow up between the ages of 11 and 18. There are pictures of many members of the council room during those years. For some reason I didn't get any pictures from 1967, and it may be I missed ordering since I was rushed to Huggins Hospital for an emergency appendectomy. I was not a camp in 1973 because I had to go to summer school to take a math prerequisite, so those pictures are absent.

In one of the postings someone mention the Brass Tacks booklet and I have scanned and uploaded a copy as well. I think it's as relevant today as it was then and am tempted to provide a copy to the Grand Canyon Boy Scout Council to have their summer camp staff read through it. I hope you enjoy.

Enjoyed your pics, Jim, because they superceded me by 3-4 years and carried on the Wyanoke tradition after I left Wyanoke in '64. I've always wondered how Wyanoke dealt with the co-ed experience in the early 70's? Looks like there were a few nice looking female councilors in those photos. Did the gals and guys intermingle, or were the campers totally separated during daily activities? Just curious. Bathing suits must have been a "MUST" then.

Was wondering if Mike might be shaking in his boots having to change the original "Wyanoke Wharf Sign" to a "Camp For Boys & Girls"! Just kidding, Mike! Laughing

Thanks for posting all that stuff. Some great pictures, and the Brass Tacks is priceless.

That wharf picture shows Jeff Hopkins and Bob Schmitt flapping around on that big rock just off the Junior Dock. Those guys were, as I noted in a comment under the picture, just about as inseparable as Garthandmike.

I read most of Brass Tacks the same night you posted it, and boy do I have a lot of comments, from not only a councior's point of view but also from a historical one, if that's the proper word -- how times changed from the time of its writing to the 60s and 70s.

When I have some time, I think I'll deconstruct it a bit. No time for a while though.
