Today is a tough day for our Administrator-in-Chief, but for those of us who consider the Red Sox 'our team', it has to be a great day. Some of us are Blues, some of us are Grays, but we have to come together and all be Red Sox today. I know we have a lot of Wyanokers from the New York area, and I don't mean to slight them, and from other metropolitian areas with ball teams, but today, just for today, we must remember Wyanoke was in Wolfeboro, NH, only a mere 100 miles from Fenway Park and the Red Sox - so, a few rah rahs for the Sox.

From Colorado:

"There is no joy in Mudville. Mighty Casey has struck out."

Well done, Sox. We sure got out-played.

Nothing but class from the Rockies in defeat. Especially Hurdle. I was very impressed with his comments throughout the series.

As a Fairfield County, Connecticut boy growing up 25 miles from Yankee Stadium, and becoming aware of baseball with '61 Yankees, let's just say the Red Sox were never my favorite team. But I'll never forget 1967. It was my last year at Wyanoke. I was in Senior Camp. As the pennant race heated up, whoever posted the daily schedule of activities on the chalkboard in the dining hall (I seem to remember it was Russ Vaughan, but maybe the duty rotated?) posted the previous evening's baseball scores along with the stats on how many games ahead/behind the Sox were in the standings. Most of Wyanoke was nuts about the Sox that year. While I didn't share the pro-Sox sentiments, it was a joy to watch others' excitement. And we didn't have a whole lot to cheer about in New York that year anyway.

This past June I went to my 35th high school reunion at Andover (Phillips Academy). They introduced the oldest living alumnus. His name is Yardley Chittick, class of 1918. He is 107 years old. After everyone cheered for Yardley, the alumni secretary got up and said, "Yardley is the only guy I ever met who, after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, said, "What? Again??"
