One of my many memories that often comes back is the image of the college banners on the walls of the chapel. Does anyone know when that might have started? Did they represent colleges attended by the staff? How did a banner get added? What ever happened to them? _________________ J-1 1970, Marc Liddle from Scotland

This is a good question, I just wish I could give you a complete answer.
To the best of my knowledge, the college banners were provided by (probably) staff who had some association with the particular college. It is also possible that a parent may have provided a banner for the same reason. I tend to feel it was more apt to be staff. I have no idea when the tradition started, but, if memory serves me correctly, even in the 70's some of these banners were pretty old, and showing their age.
I think a banner got added when someone showed up with a banner and asked to have it added. I don't think my dad, or his dad, had any particular policy for this. All of a sudden, a banner was added - end of policy (?)
As to what happened to these banners following the closing of Camp - that is a very good question. Somewhere, in the past on this site, I have addressed this general topic, namely, what happened to some stuff between the public announcement that Camp was closing and the next Spring. Some things just disappeared (plain and simple). I feel, and will continue to feel, that some people were deeply effected by the closing, and, quite possibly, some of the missing items are in their possession. I do not look at this as theft, but more of their need to have a piece of something which had been very influential in their lives. I just cannot accept the fact that someone would outright steal from Camp, but I can accept the fact that someone "just had to have" a tangible momento to preserve (physically) memories of Camp days. And, with this understanding, I am humbled to realize that Camp would have had such an impact on a person's life. I grew up in the Camp atmosphere, and, to tell you all the truth, I am appreciating it more and more each day that I grow older.
So, Tom, I may not have answered your questions specifically, but I gave you the best answer I know of for the question. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Thanks Dave.
That's about what I figured was going on. It would be really nice to find some old photos showing the banners. I have been able to make out a few from some of the photos in the gallery.
