I can remember only one windy day while at camp in the early 50's, and there wasn't any rain at the time: what made it particularly memorable was that a floatplane had drifted by the Wyanoke dock with two men working on the engine. It was extremely windy and, with no rescuer in sight, things looked dire.
My recollection is of a radial-engined Cessna 190 on floats, but it could have been something else:
Anyway, the Wolfeboro area was visited on July 24th, 2008, by a major storm that was rumored to have the makings of a tornado in it. The next day, reports were coming in of many trees down in the area. Later aerial photographs showed just how extensive the storm was—starting in Epsom, and running through Effingham; ultimately, it turned out to be 18 continuous miles of devastation.
Two years ago, I made an offer on the house in the middle of this path, which happened to be on Lake Wentworth, just skirting Pierce Camp Birchmont. (Now a co-ed camp, I understand).
Two Birchmont cabins were demolished even though not in the tornado's pathway (and off the photo). The campers were in Rochester at a movie.
The lakefront house I was looking to buy is between the two visible houses, and only the roof was visible from the road, even after FEMA had cleared the road to the end.
Two things I don't recall at Wyanoke: major storms and the duck itch that has been plaguing Lake Winnipesaukee the last two decades.
(Duck itch = a nasty itch of swimmers caused by a tiny parasite of waterfowl.) _________________ Gordon B. (Father) Wyanoke ~1929-1937

Bob, nice pic of that Cessna 190. Where on the Lake was that photo taken? Winnipesaukee usually has/had designated landing "strips" for seaplanes, however I don't know how strictly they are followed.
Yes, the weather in the Lakes Region over the past 3 weeks has been unusual to say the least. Our dad, sister and brother-in-law live out on Chase Point in Tuftonboro. They were spared fortunately but others in Melvin Village and Tuftonboro were not so lucky. Trees were down on Route 109 before and after Melvin Village and in the vicinity of Wharf Road near 19 Mile Bay. I agree with you about weather at Wyanoke during the day. Yes we had rain and wind but nothing near a tornado or "super cell" that I can remember.
Must be the extremely "hot air" from the "inside the beltway" folks in DC that got pushed up to the "Noth" Country! We can blame it on Washington and the jokers that extract a salary on our behalf!
I wanna know if John Edwards is the DAD! _________________ '56 - J-9 J. Moulton
