Today, I read about the passing of Robert J Gillis, councilor in S-4 between 1950 and 1955, at the Mt. View Nursing Home, Ossipee, NH. He had been associated with Adrian College in Michigan, retiring and settling in Wolfeboro in 1986 with his wife.
He was mostly a sailing instructor, an avid and expert horse shoe pitcher, and an all around good guy. Many of us may remember him by his rather direct way of enforcing "quiet" after senior taps - he would walk through a tent and "remind" a talking camper by "gently" placing his 5-D cell batteries metal flashlight neatly along the part line of the eloquent young camper's head. Generally, dare I say always, only one trip through a tent was necessary.
Bob also spoke at the reunion and dedication of the plaque in 1995.
I have talked with his wife and expressed the condolences of Camp Wyanoke both corporately and personally. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58
