Excerpts of my note to Mike:

jer3cube@aol.com..
Thanks for your note. I attended Wyanoke for 8 consecutive years; played drums in the band;
Moving from Cabin town to Junior Tents, Duke Dukakis, Mike's brotherand also there, was my counselor.
In Senior Tents I recall Jerry Yariccio and the gang that hailed from Hartford and along with a school teacher counselor - Capt Taylor - who taught us camping and how to use an ax. I recall earning my raillery badges up to the standing position.
And enjoyed the Magicians that performed during the winter at the Boston reunions. Oh, I don't want to leave out the horse back riding at the Brook and Bridle Inn or the swimming and high dive, which scared me to death, and the weekly visit to the Candy Store.
Please don't let me leave out Brad Bently's reading of The Man With The Golden Arm.
I was surprised to find this site. I was under the impression that the camp was no longer
operational. I would be happy to be brought up to date. Did I say my sisters went to Winnemont
for a couple of seasons, at least.
Feel free to share these comments on the site. Maybe, I will hear from some of the "old timers"
I have lived in Darien CT for many years. And, last year my wife and I became "full time snow birds" buy a Condo in Fort Myers, FL at the Caloosa Yacht and Racquet Club. I would love to visit with any friends that me near either location.
Wyanoke was definitely a learning experience for a city dweller, then Worcester, MA.
I learned and experienced things that just could not have been learned any other way.
"Snipe Hunt" anybody?
With fond memories and apologies for any mispellings,
Gerry Barrington |

More of my note to Mike:
GerryB
jer3cube@aol.com..
I do have some photos with names written down, which escapes my memory. I'll see about sending them to you to down load. The names you mention below don't ring a bell.
Having the site is nice idea.
We learned how to be Gentlemen Woodsmen....and Sailors... Mountain Climbers (Mt Washington and Mt Chacorera (?)....and Sacco River Canoeing..(down stream is easier).
I attended Tabor Academy which had salt water small boat sailing and racing at Shipan Harbor in Marion, Ma. Without the Wyanoke experience in the Winabout's (?) what would I know about
sailing or canoeing or fishing......or Drill Team which stood me in good stead come the ROTC years at Middlebury College.
I learned enough to select the Fighting Finance Corp to serve as a 2nd Lt. You know "Chairborne not Airborne, someone has to stay behind to love the gals"
My six months for training at Ft Benjamin Harrison was extended by a year to fight the
Berlin Crises....from where?......Washington, D.C. at temporary building A, Ft Mcnair, which
had General's Row housing. The lowest ranking officers were a Captain who ran the club and
a 1st Lt. and two 2nd Lt.'s, of which I was one.
A real "hardship" tour of duty.

All I can say is, "Hooray for Gerry Barrington, I am no longer the senior senior, I actually have someone to look up to."
I was in Cabin 1 in 1949 when you were in Junior 10 with Stelian Dukakis. The funny thing about camp life was that being in different sections of camp was like being from different planets in the solar system as far as hanging out with other people. I do recognize some of the names in your tent group, and practicly everyone remembers Capt Taylor.
Your memory is good, Gerry, candy line increased to several times a week, the Golden Arm was told every year by my Dad, Windabouts were our sailboats at that time, Saco trips continued to be popular every year, Mt Chocorua remained popular, we developed, thanks mostly to Mike and Garth, an extensive hiking program in the White Mountains using the AMC system as a backbone.
Over the years my Dad didn't make too many changes, and certainly no radical ones, on the theory that what was working ought to be left alone. Changes were made, but Wyanoke stayed a 'camp', and didn't evolve into a 'resort'.
It's real nice to hear from you, and keep the Blue spirit going.
David Bentley

Hi David,
Thanks for correcting my spelling.
I have some pictures that I will be able to forward after they are
scanned. I was in Cabin 6 in 1947, the 38 th year of the camp.
I have picutres of Sandy Fish (His dad was teacher in Hartford and a counselor, I believe and Jerry Yericcio (sp)
This site brings back rush of good memories. I just remember the
Cabin Town Fair....and the circular discs you were supossed to drop
over completely covering the red painted circle.
