I just came across something so interesting that I want to post it right away. I have been "cleaning my office", as task most of us engage in from time to time, and one I am not overly fond of, nor do I do it very often. However, to the point: I was leafing through the Camp booklet for 1928 and I came across a paragraph explaining what "class" (Midget, Junior, Senior) you would be in at Camp. I am going to copy it word for word.

"To find in what class you belong multiply your age at the opening
of camp by ten and add your weight without clothes. If the total
is less than 190 you are a Midget. If between 190 and 240 you
are a Junior. If 240 or over you are a Senior."

I had never heard of this formula before, no mention by my Dad, nothing.

Since I was (believe it or not) quite skinny as a camper, I probably would have been a Midget most of my time, and then, by age, gone directly to being a JC!

Wow, that is interesting. I wonder when the age boundaries took over. Someone, at some point, must have said "This ain't working." There have been some "large" 8-year-olds who would have had a rough time in a Junior tent.

I found out the hard way that the age divisions were adaptable depending upon the needs of camp. I showed up for the 2nd half of 1964 (my 2nd year at Wyanoke) at the age of 10.5 fully expecting to be in the Junior Camp. Found out I was assigned to another year of Midgetdom. I told Mr. Bentley I thought the age for Junior was 10.5. He said it is actually "ten and three quarters". I knew that the year before there were 10.5s in Junior Camp. There were only twenty kids in Midget Camp that year, and I think BMB put me and Hank Lehren (who was actually already over 10.75) in Midget Camp in order to have five cabins with four kids each. If I recall correctly, Cabins 1,2,5,6, and 7 were used that year, leaving the others empty. I'll have to check the gallery of rosters to be sure.
