I'm watching KC play the A's, and the hero for KC so far is Eric Hosmer. I've only ever come across that surname once before, many many years ago, at Wyanoke:: Bruce Hosmer, Hos as he was known. Just sharing the thought. _________________ 1953-1960

Yep. There were three Hosmers, John, Bruce and Ralph. As I remember, Ralph ('59 -71) and Bruce (57 - 65) were adopdive brothers and were from Belmont MA. John (52 - 57) was from Winchester. I assume they were related in some way.
That is an unusual name. I wonder if there's any connection, other than in the obscure way-back-in-the-family-tree-we're-all-related sense.
Hey Pat, you should remember Joe Brawley. Why don't you add something to my thread start about him (and any other people who cme to camp for clinics or entertainment.) _________________ '56-C-9 C. Mosher '57-C-9 Bill Feaster

I can't add to the Joe Brawley thread because I don't remember him. I do remember Don Budge, and it still blows me away that someone of his stature came to Wyanoke. _________________ 1953-1960

Ralph and Bruce Hosmer were not related to John Hosmer. John was a camper and JA, and then didn't return.
As far as names (entertainers) from the past, I struggle because I never was all that good with names, but, I'll try.
Joe Brawley was certainly a regular for a number of years; let's not forget Sam Eves, who passed away in August 1997. There were several people who did "Sunday pulpit duty" over the years. For most of us, we probably remember Mr. Howard Niblock (dad to Tom and Ned, and Bill) who was a big guy, in the 6'5" range, with the 'ballast' to fill out his frame. He was a no nonsense guy who could straighten you out in a heart-beat, and love you in the next breath. Believe me, when he spoke - you listened.
Although I can't remember their names, I remember we had a parade of magicians and other traveling entertainers throughtout the summers.
One gentleman who never appeared on the Camp grounds was a friend of the father of a camper, and that father was a close friend of Dad's (Brad), and Dad took me to the Boston Sportsman Show at the Massachusetts Armory (about 1954) and this camper's father introduced me to his long-time friend, and good fishing buddy - Ted Williams. Mr Williams was there to put on a casting-for-accuracy clinic during the Show. Pretty impressive for me. Imagine me, shaking Ted Williams' hand, and prior to all that the closest I had come to fishing royalty was none other than our own "Worms, I got worms. See me outside after dinner" Norm Risser.
Right within the councilor corps of Camp there were some notables. I hesitate to enter this subject because I only know what I was exposed to in the last years of Camp, but maybe some of you know of others. Richard K. Irons was distinguished in the field of academia and had held governmental posts in advisory and consultant roles; Robert Fox was distinguikshed in academia throiugh his work as a superintendent and national officer, and also with his work with the Red Cross, and, most lately, his expertise in the area of birds in New Hampshire expressed by being an author of a definitive book on the subject.
Troughout the years there were many educators associated with Camp, and, due to friendships and mentorships developed at Camp many boys went into academia, medicine (Bob Arnot, MD), business, industry, military, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention our own (and my JC) Garth Nelson who went into camp directing and had an outstanding career at Camp Agawam in Maine.
Don Budge was thanks to Dick Irons.
My apologies to the many others who contributed greatly, and to the great many who went on from Camp into distinguished career. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58
