Sherry and I are in the throes of downsizing our possessions. This is a process which takes a lot of time and thought. We just have more stuff than we have space. I have several trunks of Wyanoke items, and among these items I have a sign I would like to try and return to the person who made it. The sign measures approx 21 1/2" wide by 9 1/2" tall, has Camp Wyanoke burned on two lines, the wood may be cedar, and in the lower right corner are the initials JAW.
If anyone can think of someone named JAW, I would try to contact them. I'm sure that this sign represents hard work by someone, and I know my Dad appreciated it, and I would like to return it to the then young man who made it.
Thanks for the help.
Now that my son-in-law and daughter both go to Penn State, besides routing for the Blues, I now am adding "GO PSU" to my cheers !! _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Hi Dave: Hope you and Sherry are surviving this lovely weather. I did a real quick search for "JAW" by looking at the rosters.
I came up with 5 possibilities. Jonathan Welsh (1972), Jonathan Wason (1962) Joseph Wood (1961) Jim Wright (1953) and John Wills (1943). Campers may have been at Wyanoke for other years.
It's kind of really neat to look at the rosters. You see names of people that you may not have thought about in a loooong time. It's cool to see how many campers had older brothers or Dads/Uncles who attended Wyanoke.
Any chance of getting a picture of this sign, as that would help, I'm sure with the ID of the mysterious "JAW".
Keep your lifejacket handy.

Thanks for the info. From the looks and condition of the sign my guess would be either Jonathon Welsh (1972) or Jonathon Wason (1962). I also think the sign was probably inside, probably in Dad's office, for instance, because it doesn't show any real signs of weather abuse. I'll try to post a picture in the near future.

Hi Dave:
I went just noticed that the 1973 mockup lists Welsh as Jonathan M. Welch, so we can scratch him from the list.
I'm inclined to think that Jonathan Wason is your man. The rosters list the Wason family (Atkinson, NH) sending brothers Earle, Grant, Scott and Jonathan Wason from 1955 thru 1963.
Earle:
C-4 1955
J-6 1956
J-6 1957
J-9 1958
S-4 1959
Jonathan:
C-1 1957
C-5 1958
J-5 1959
J-5 1960
S-5 1961
S-5 1962
Grant M:
C-5 1960
J-5 1961
J-11 1962
S-5 1963
Scott:
C-4 1960
C-6 1961
J-1 1962
J-1 1963.
I found a Grant M. Wason living in Haverhill. Phone is 978 372-6628. I'm sure that he would know where his brother is living. He might even know is Jonathan carved the sign.
It looks like Earle is living in Freedon, NH and there is a Scott Wason listed as living in Fremont. Nothing on Jonathan, but I'm sure one of his broyhers knows of his whereabouts.
Hope this helps..

Hi Jeff,
First, thanks for the help on the Jerrey Hoyt names. I'll get in there and make the changes when the time allows. Been busy, and should have responded sooner. That's my MO, though, huh?
I think you may be right. I do remember a JAW back in those years, and I've been wracking by brain to remember who the hell it was. I really do think it was Jonathan Wason. Nice work.
I remember the Wasons. As I recall, they were relatively slight kids with either brilliant, glowing blonde, or strawberry reddish hair. I seem to recall that there was something they did that they excelled in. Was it tennis? A memorable family, except that I forget what it was that they excelled in. I don't think it was shop.
I'm pretty close to finishing the database (the one where we'll enter all this info so we can find it quicker.) I've worked on it for maybe 3 hours so far and it's got maybe another couple of hours of programming to get it workable. Dave Bentley offered to help with the data too, so with the three of us working on it, we should have it all done in just shy of a couple of years.
Dave, I think I'll "assign" you the pre-1940 rosters, because we didn't get them on disk, and you have them handy (if handy's the word). Jeff and I'll tackle the '40 - '75 range. M'Kay? Yeah, do post a picture of the JAW sign. If you're not sure how, send it to me via email and I'll post it for you.
