As we approach 2008 I want to wish each of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year. Things will be getting busy in the next few weeks so my early wishes to each of our co-workers, tent mates, cabin mates, friends of Wyanoke and family.

And a special thank you to Mike Freeland for making this site a reality, to Dave Bentley for his insight and knowledge and to all that have contributed to helping us remember some of the best days of our lives!

And a special thank you to Brad & Edna and Brad's parents for making Wyanoke an experience second to none. And to our Mom who passed away in March and who loved Wyanoke as we did as kids.

I'm certainly glad to have re-discovered this site—just this year—and enjoy the bounty of so many memories. Thank you, Mike Freeland and all who have refreshed my recollections of "The Good Old Days" at camp.

I begin this Christmas season in a very new and different locale—the Florida Keys! While I'm scratching at my no-see-um bites, and stepping over the newly-invasive iguanas, I'm also having some difficulty enjoying a vicarious experience with Wolfeboro's deep snow this weekend!

Somehow, memories from Wyanoke days and the approaching Holiday get entwined with warmth: something to do with the "Wayback Machine", I guess.

Hi Bob

Where in the Keys are you and have you moved permanently from Winter Harbor or just for the Holidays? I think Mike has some extra "bug dope" and 6-12 sticks that may help with those "no-see-em's"

I have been to Key West 3-4 times with intermediate stops in Key Largo, Islamorada and a few other spots. The locals always say that if one stays too long on the Keys, one can develop "Rock Fever" . . . . . . . . not a real disease but an adversion to all the rocks upon which the Keys are built .

Enjoy the nice weather and be sure to visit that great Key Lime Pie store on or near Duval Street in Key West and also "Rum Runners" on Duval for their 2 & 3 for 1's during happy hour.

Winter Harbor will remain my summer home for the foreseeable future.

I'm winter-located 25 miles from Key West, in a "bedroom community" whose population is mostly employed down that way. Twenty miles the other way (from here) is the Town of Marathon, where it's more laid-back—where the major stores are—and an airport.

Flying insects weren't a problem today, as the wind was even rough on ants! (But I will take donations of 6-12).

Come to think of it, I have an original small glass jar of liquid 6-12, kept for old time's sake located with a bottle labeled "Tobey's Drugstore Wolfeboro", which closed in the 80's in response to a "big box store" that snuck in.

Digging, there's less than a foot of soil here before you hit solid coral rock. Coral rock is the fossilized—and solid—remnants of the ancient coral reefs that are the Keys today. When the water-meter reader showed up, I noticed the meter box was full of water. I asked, "Why is that?" He said, "It's high tide".



Anyway, I've been retired for nine years: this will be my winter home to replace a quiet spot in Central Florida near DisneyWorld and the Town of Frostproof. Today, neither are "frostproof-enough" for me!

Personally, we certainly have a lot to be happy about, and a lot to enjoy, but, more to the point, we have much more to be thankful for.

Let us not forget the origin of this season and never lose sight of its meaning.
